I dont know what got me to thinking about these things...maybe it is the current pregnancy and the hormones! ha. Just ask my husband about those! Anyway, when I was pregnant with Simon I had a mental list of things I would never do. Not that I felt anything was wrong with them, I simply believed I would do things differently. So if you are reading this and these things are on your list of things you "fully support/enjoy doing etc etc", dont take offense. It is simply an opinion and really...read on...
Here are my top 3
1. The TV will NOT babysit my child. Ha. Say that and then get pregnant and horridly tired while chasing a 21 month old around the house from morning to night. Yah, this rule has long been broken and truly...he has learned more things from the TV then I can count. I stick with the educational shows. Yes, Dora is a favorite in this house. Thank you Dora for allowing me some daily sanity!
2. No bottles beyond a year old! Simon only gets one at night and that has been for a long long time now. However, I did not stick to cutting him off completely! Its coming though...prepare yourself little man.
On this same note would be his soother...ah yes, I must admit it has become my sleepy time best friend. Sigh. I swore I would never allow it to become a "crutch" for his sleeping habits, but hey...we all have our weaknesses. I must add however that his soother does not leave his room, ever. It is only for naps and night nights. So I am only half guilty here!
3. I will run the child, not the other way around. This one really makes me laugh...as I really thought this was entirely possible. I would have full control over my little one at all times. I must have been totally nuts! I have a good percent of the control, however I often bend, shift, adjust just to keep the peace and make the day go smoother. I am sure that in some sense, we are all guilty of this.
So all in all, with a second baby on the way I would say I have a better grasp on the reality of what to expect. Go with the flow and let the chips fall where they may. I cant control everything (yes I will continue to try) and really...who wants to? I have learned a lot from a boy who is so small yet opens my eyes to so many things. I believe that we all have. Letting go of certain things has been hard, but looking back...its safe to say I have no regrets!
Can you see "trouble" written all over this face?
